Biographical Summary

 

Christian Mayaud is a CEO with extensive healthcare, technology, and operating experience managing companies from their start-up through their growth phases.  As a physician and entrepreneur, Chris combined his proficiency and commitment to medicine with his background in engineering to develop clinical communication tools dedicated to empowering physicians in the practice of medicine.  Chris founded several physician-centric healthcare companies headquartered in Westchester, NY (including Physicians’ Online, Inc., Med-E-Systems Corporation, Advanced Health Corporation, and vPORT) and works closely with numerous portfolio companies.  A board-certified internist and engineer, Chris trained at Columbia, Hahnemann, Mt. Sinai, and Lenox Hill hospitals.  He currently lives in Bronxville, NY with his wife, Hillary Burnett, and their three children.  Chris is also an active early stage private equity investor and charter member of the New York Angel Investors Group.

Designed and ran bioelectrochemical studies on in vitro tissue preparations. Pulsing electromagnetically induced currents (PEMIC) were used to modulate cellular activities and were routinely screened and optimized for their biological effects. Results from these studies were used in therapeutic devices such as the currently FDA approved EBI Bi-Osteogen System for the treatment of recalcitrant bone fractures.

Basic research in the bioelectrochemistry of living tissues. Electrochemical models are applied to interfacial processes of biological systems. Impedance response to low level PEMIC perturbation is measured using high speed digital devices interfaced to an HP-1000 computer. Using modified Laplace transform techniques, values of various impedance pathway time constants (corresponding to specific electrochemical events at the cell surface) are tested for and extracted. The role of these electrochemical events in cell regulation are studied and weak inductively coupled pulsating currents are designed to select specific electrochemical events which may modulate specific cell functions.
